78: Artsy Tree No. Three

Posted on Apr 15, 2020 by in Magnet Limit, No Limit

Between every two pine trees there is a door leading to a new way of life.

-John Muir

Long time no see, magnet sphere tree. The April 2020 contest is the treequel to the previously held abstract tree contests: #10 and #40. Use any brand of magnet spheres to make a self-supporting upright tree. No limit in piece count though it’s doubtful you’ll need to use more than a Mandala. You may use a metal building platform to stabilize the base.

Of all the possible trees, you’re not limited to imitating nature with your art. Apply any creative liberties you need to, even if you’re the only one that identifies your creation as a tree. Just keep in mind that: in your fractal structure battle against gravity, you’re still catering to a panel of your peers. Don’t forget about the background!

Summary of Requirements

  • No Magnet count limit
  • Any brand magnet spheres ok
  • Metal base or building plate permitted to build upon
  • One submission per person
  • Submission deadline is April 30, 2020

Everything you submit goes into the public domain. As usual, the judges will be your peers. Pay attention to resolution, focus, lighting and framing. Use not your bright reflective flash, but instead a self timer and a tripod. Sharp, high resolution pictures are preferred. Of course, the first and foremost requirement, is that you have fun! We’re offering up $300 in prizes to be distributed among the winners.
