73: Zen by Candlelight

The November 2019 contest is to photograph Zen Magnets with a long exposure and lit purely by candlelight. This contest is for Zen Magnets only. So, no Neoballs, no Micromagnets, no cubes, etc. You are not limited by the number of Zen Magnets you may use.

Grab yourself a tripod, light some candles, pour a glass of wine, and photograph some magnets by candlelight. Even if you’re shooting from a phone, most will allow you to take up to 10 second exposures to capture dark scenes, though you might need to download a free app.

Other than that, this contest is creatively broad.

Summary of Requirements:

• Zen Magnets only, no limit on quantity
• Shoot in a dark room, lit only by a candlelight
• Submission deadline is November 30, 2019
• 1 submission per person
• No collages or photo-manipulation beyond basic color levels and contrast

As usual, the judges will be your peers. Pay attention to resolution, focus, lighting, and framing. Unless you’re outside under the sun, avoid your bright reflective flash, and opt for a self timer and a tripod (or stand.) Sharp, high resolution pictures are preferred. $300 in prizes is up for grabs and distribution will depend on participation. There will be at least five winners. Prizes will be announced with judging. Everything you submit goes into the public domain. Submission deadline is the last day of November 2019.
