Posted on Jan 3, 2013 by in No Limit, Results Posted

16 total entries submitted in the January 2013 Musical Instrument contest. A wide array of equipment was represented, though half of them were string instruments.  A total of $232 worth of magnetic prizes were awarded in this contest.

1st Place: GalaxyTraveler

GalaxyTraveler

This Magnet Glockenspiel, or xylophone if made of wood, is made of a total of 1816 spheres. A fantastic rendition with great use of colors. The background is distinct, yet doesn’t distract from the magnets themselves. Such distinct figures, placed photogenically to the frame. It comes to no surprise that GalaxyTraveler is one of the seasoned elite of the Zen Gallery. This photograph represents his second build ever using colored Neoballs.

GalaxyTraveler wins $100 in Zen Credits, usable on ZenMagnets.com or Neoballs.com.

2nd Place: Sheecacaa3

Sheecacaa3

A lightly adorned pan flute, simple yet affectionate. The high resolution original is a pleasure to view. Overall, the photograph looks strikingly natural.

3rd Place (Tie): Mathnetism

Mathnetism

This impression of a cello is moving. Such round and seductive curves are truly an impressive feat, especially when the medium are magnet spheres.  Certainly a build that is not easily reverse engineered. The contrast is remarkable, and we hope to see more angles of this build in the Gallery.

3rd Place (Tie): ZenMagGeekPro

ZenMagGeekPro

The guitarist on stage has quite a lively personality. lights, magnets, and rock ‘n roll, baby. Effectively expressed post processing.

4th Place: Ssoltero

Ssoltero

A pixel art approach to a trumpet. Wonderful idea and execution.

5th Place: Tend2it

tend2it

Multi-color violin with great detail and shape representation. Rather astounding shape representation for such few magnets. Zen version here.

6th Place: Nerfzul

Nerfzul

This full featured drum set would go well in that magnet rock band 🙂
